In the context of document or form tags, sets the value of an item in a document. The item's value is visibly changed on the document or form immediately, but is not saved into the database until the document or form is saved.

datatype

Indicates the data type of the item for a new document and provides that to the server for automatic validation. The options are text, number, date, datetime, richtext, readers, authors, or names. Default is text. If the type specified does not match the actual type in an existing document, an exception is thrown. Optional.

Locale to use to convert the numbers and dates that display. If specified, overrides the locale that the browser specifies in the Acceptlang string. Use the following syntax: "<languageCode>_<countryCode>". See Locale codes for more details. By default, uses the first locale specified in the AcceptLang string for the browser. Optional.

Specifies the character that stands as the multi-value separator, which identifies breaks between values in a multi-value field. Must be one of the following: blank, comma, colon, semicolon. For example, if an item's value is "George Washington;Abraham Lincoln;John Adams" and the mvseparator equals semicolon, this indicates that the item contains the following multiple values: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and John Adams. If the mvseparator equals blank, this indicates that the item contains the following multiple values: George, Washington:Abraham, Lincoln:John, and Adams. If no mvseparator is specified, indicates that the item contains a single value. Default is to specify no multi-value separator. Optional.

Name of the item in the document that you want to set the value of. Required.

Time zone to use to display the date. If you do not specify a value, defaults to the time zone of the server (not the browser). Optional.

Value to assign to the item. New documents default to the specified data type or use the data type of an existing value. Required.
